The festive mood was spoiled on 23rd December when fires gutted the homes of 1500 people in informal dwellings in Valhalla Park. Mustadafin Foundation, working with the city, made every effort to see to the basic needs of those displaced.
On Christmas Day, at the Mayor’s request, Mustadafin Foundation staff and volunteers prepared a Christmas lunch for the1500 fire victims in Valhalla park. The City of Cape town was determined to bring some comfort and celebratory mood to those whose homes had been ravaged by fire just two days before Christmas.
With a hearty menu of roast chicken, veggies and salads, with tasty akni followed by ice-cream, the community members were satiated and in better spirits.
We appeal to the broader Cape community to offer their support in our efforts to assist the children of these households in starting the school year with all that they need.
